Beatlemania - The Beatles, 50 Years Later
The Beatles arrived in the United States 50 years ago today, on February 7, 1964. They were greeted with fever-pitch excitement by fans, concerts throughout the United States, and several appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show. I was a toddler when they first appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show. I understand that I stood up and put my hands on my ears because I was scared of all the screaming in the audience. That changed quickly, and I became one of their youngest (and most fervent) fans. How about you - do you remember the Beatles from the 1960's? I would love to hear your Beatles thoughts and memories in the comments, below.

Trish, I was 14 years old. I still remember sitting on the floor right in front of the tv when they first appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show.
Trish, I was 14 years old & sat on the living room floor right in front of the tv the first time The Beatles appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show.
Lin, that is so neat! I know you are a big Beatles fan. You were the perfect age for Beatlemania!
Trish's initial reaction was shared by George Harrison. It has been noted that when he looked outside the airplane window after landing at JFK, he asked his bandmates, "Is this really such a good idea?"
Bobby, that is neat. I had never heard that anecdote before!
Trish, I was 4 and the Beatles' performance is one of the first things I remember with clarity. I knew about them from my sister's "Meet the Beatles" LP, which I loved and insisted she play every day. My parents let me stay up to see them on Ed Sullivan, on our 12-inch black & white. I was mesmerized and remember thinking John was standing funny. So I've been a fervent fan from the beginning, and can happily say I still have that original. MTB album of my sister's!
That is neat that the Beatles performance is one of your first memories! It is so neat, too, that you still have your Meet the Beatles LP. My first 45 was by the Beatles. I still have the 45, but not a working turntable hooked up, alas!
Hi, Trish - I was later getting to know the Beatles. My friend's older brothers gave me some cassette tapes (remember them?) filled with Beatles songs they had taped from the radio. I listened to them over and over and as an aside, the last song was not by the Beatles (at least I don't think it was), it was sung by the young men who gave me the tapes and was a bit x-rated, LOL! I expect they forgot they had tacked that recording on the end...or do you think they might have done it on purpose? Guess I will never know but it was thanks to them that I "met" the Beatles.
Brenda, that is a neat Beatles story! I sure do remember cassette tapes. We used to make mix tapes on them.
