Book Review - Tranquility: A Prayer and Reflection Coloring Journal

Book Synopsis
Tranquility: A Prayer and Reflection Coloring Journal invites you to mix creative journaling and coloring into your personal time with God. Prayers that focus on topics such as being thankful, dealing with stress and heartache, caring for yourself and others, listening for God’s leading, and waiting patiently on Him will guide your thoughts and calm your spirit. Filled with more than 100 designs to color, plenty of space for journaling, and 40 needs-based prayers, Tranquility will help you express your devotion to God with your whole heart.

My Review
Tranquility: A Prayer and Reflection Coloring Journal is a lovely and unique book.   I love this description from the Introduction page:  "As you enter into the prayers offered in this book, spend time thinking about what you are saying to God.  Take it slow.  You may even want to personalize each prayer to reflect the needs and hopes you have for your own life.  To make your time even more meaningful, write down your own prayers and color the artwork, or create your own drawing."

This is a beautifully designed book from the Tyndale Living Expressions collection.  You will find devotionals, prayers, Bible versions, room to journal, and lovely designs to color.   For instance, one of my favorite devotionals is "Life is short ... make the most of it!  God's glory lasts forever."  This page is decorated with clocks and sundials to color.

The book is so well made with a sturdy pressed cardboard cover and pages that lie open easily for coloring.  I love the rounded corners too.

Tranquility: A Prayer and Reflection Coloring Journal is a delightful book to relax with after a busy day, a good way to unwind in a creative and thoughtful manner.  It would also make a lovely gift!

Book Review - Promises for You Coloring Devotional by Faithgirlz

Book Synopsis
Take time to enjoy God’s Word and color images from his beautiful world. In this 40-day coloring devotional filled with unique illustrations and patterns, you will read about God’s unchanging promises through NIrV Bible verses, paired with detailed line art. Each page is printed on high-quality, thick paper stock that won’t bleed through. And when you’re finished coloring with markers, metallic pens, or colored pencils, you will have a chance to reflect and journal about each promise from Scripture, and find inspiration for every day. Perfect for girls 8-12.

My Review
Promises for You Coloring Devotional: 60 Days Discovering God's Hope and Love is a wonderful devotional book with coloring pages.  It is designed for girls ages 8 - 12.

This is a well made hardcover book by Zondervan (ZonderKidz).  It begins with a presentation page with book instructions.  Then there are 60 days of devotions and coloring.  Each day has a coloring page followed by a page with a Bible verse and a journaling prompt.  For instance:  "What are your hopes and dreams?  Jot them down on the lines below.  As you do so, think about the fact that God knows the hopes you hold in your heart.  He wants you to dream big, and he wants you to trust him with plans.  Because only God can make them come true.  When you put your faith in God, he fills you with hope even greater than you can imagine" (first devotion in book).

I think this is such a positive and empowering book for girls.  I particularly love the combination of coloring and journaling with a question prompt each day.

The book is well made with fun designs to color -- most are intricate and will take a bit of time, all great for relaxing and thinking.  Although the book is a hardcover, the coloring pages flatten out for coloring if you rub a hand gently but firmly along the open pages before coloring.

I recommend this fun and positive coloring devotional for older elementary and middle grade girls.  I think they will find it both enjoyable and thought provoking!

Book Review - Amazing Animal Facts Postcards by Maja Säfström

Book Synopsis
Based on Maja Säfström’s delightful book The Illustrated Compendium of Amazing Animal Facts, this collection of 50 collectible postcards is the perfect way for animal lovers and art lovers to share and collect Maja’s charming illustrations.

Housed in a keepsake box and arranged, much like a recipe box or card catalog, in tabbed sections (air, forest, sea, etc) this postcard box lets the user share all the curious knowledge and amazing artwork that makes Maja’s book so special. From the Otters (they hold hands when they sleep in the water so they don’t float away from each other!) to the elephant (mother elephant pregnanices last two years!) each postcard presents a unique look at the animal kingdom that will delight and astound. 50 postcards; 25 designs repeating, printed on toothy uncoated stock, with the animal’s biological classifcation on the back.

My Review
Amazing Animal Facts Postcards is such a lovely and unique box of animal postcards to color! I loved this postcard set from first look. It is a well made box, designed with a top that opens up like an old fashioned recipe box. Inside there are dividers: Sea, Forest, Field, Jungle, and Sky. There are animal postcards in each section (50 postcards in 25 designs). The postcards are a nice heavy cardstock, with a charming illustration and information about the animal on the front, and place to write a message and address the card on the back. For instance, the Sea section includes: Blue Whales, Penguins, Starfish, Turtles and Tortoises, Sharks.

I love the the beauty of the illustrations by Maja Säfström. The only thing I wish is that there was less black in the illustrations and more open spaces for coloring. Some of the cards have quite a bit to color, and others have very little because of the heavy amounts of black shading.

The little animal facts are informative and fun as well. For instance, I had no idea that Blue Whales have belly buttons!

This would make a fun set for a child or classroom as well as for an adult to color, stamp, and send. I also think it would be a fun and creative gift.
