Dear Abby - Happy New Year!

Dear Friends,

Happy New Year!  I've missed chatting with you here.  I couldn't wait until my usual Friday post, but really wanted to write and catch up.  I hope your holidays were bright and hope you are having a good start to the new year.

I had a wonderful and relaxing Christmas!  I stayed busy helping Momma get ready for the holidays.   (For me that means dressing up cute and posing for pictures -- my Christmas photo below.  I did not like the hoodie on the Santa suit!)

I saw friends and family over Christmas and spent some extra special time with my human Grammy.   Here I am snuggled up right beside her on Christmas day.

Of course I enjoyed toys and treats!  I have a new Christmas mouse toy that I love to snuggle with.

Santa also brought me a new harness!  It is from Dachshund Delights and I like it a lot.  It's pink with little hearts.

I have not made a single resolution this year, except to spend as much time as possible with my Momma and to enjoy each and every day.  That is a resolution I know I can achieve!

I would love to hear from you in the comments.  I have a fun new series coming up here and I will be back not THIS Friday but next week on Friday.

Love,

Abby xoxoxo

Dear Abby - Vintage New Year Dachshunds

Happy New Year, Dear Friends!

I am so glad to be back chatting with you.  I had a wonderful break with my Momma and am eager to visit with you here.   I have some fun plans for the upcoming weeks on my blog, but today I thought I would share a few vintage New Year dachshunds with you.

A dachshund helps her person blow up balloons on this Calling All Girls magazine cover, January 1960.

This Calling All Girls cover features a dachshund helping her person make noise (January 1963).

The rest of the pictures are from vintage postcards.  Some dachshunds sample champagne!

This dachshund contemplates a beverage.

These dachshunds find January 1 on a calendar.  (They also have some clover for luck!)

Another dachshund finds a calendar ... this time in an old fashioned basket.

These dachshunds make a snowman!

They even protect their snowman with an umbrella!

I hope you enjoyed these vintage images.  Please visit again next week - I have a fun question for you!

Have a wonderful weekend, and Happy New Year!

Love,
Abby xoxoxo

A Preview of 2016 at View from the Birdhouse

Thanks for visiting View from the Birdhouse!  I'm looking forward to a fun year of blogging here, and hope you'll visit often.

I will be having daily themes through the year:

Music Monday - little mini histories behind songs (lots of retro music!).
Did You Know Tuesday - retro topics and nostalgia, as well as interesting facts about children's literature.
Wordless Wednesday - vintage ephemera from my shops at eBay, Etsy, and Bonanza.
Throwback Thursday - nostalgic fun with pictures!
Dear Abby - my little dog Abby blogs on Fridays.  :-)
Weekend Window Shopping at Birdhouse Books - new arrivals at my online shops.

This year I will take a break from the scheduled topics some days and just post about something fun for a change of pace.  This could be a visit to an antique show, a vintage treasure hunting experience, or unique historical places around town.  It could also be a fun seasonal topic!  I'm looking forward to these change of pace days.

I will continue posting book reviews, author interviews, and spotlights (with giveaways when possible!).  I am going to limit these book posts to 2 - 3 a week.  The books featured here will include cozy mysteries, historical fiction, women's fiction, and children's books.   A few upcoming books you'll see featured this month:

Murder Most Malicious by Alyssa Maxwell (a historical Upstairs-Downstairs type mystery)
Mermaid Moon by Colleen Coble (romantic suspense)
The Lady's Command by Stephanie Laurens (historical romance - regency)
The Restaurant Critic's Wife by Elizabeth LeBan (women's fiction with a culinary theme)

I would love to connect with you this year!  I love social media.  You will find me online:

You also can subscribe to this blog by email with the "follow by email" option in the right column. (It is near the top of the column, as you'll see in the photo below.  The subscription option is just beneath the Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest buttons in the right column.)

Wishing you a wonderful year ahead!

Trish

16 Fun Facts About Me for 2016

Happy New Year!  I had fun last year putting together a list of 15 fun facts, so decided to take on this challenge again for 2016.

1. My favorite dog breeds:  Dachshunds, Beagles, Jack Russell Terriers.

2. I also love cats!

3. I studied French through high school and college, and can still speak conversational French (with occasional lapses into Franglais!).

4. I considered going to seminary to become an outreach minister.

5. My preteen crush was David Cassidy.

6. Carrots are my favorite vegetable.  I like them served any way, but especially steamed (with or without butter).

7. The movie I have seen most in my life is The Sound of Musicby my best calculation, at least 50 times.

8. I am a longtime vegetarian.  I think I was meant to be a vegetarian;  I was that little girl who loved spinach, and who always hoped for a southern veggie plate at restaurants.

9. In 2010 I took on the challenge of writing a poem a day.  I still do this and it brings me joy.

10. I love the Olympics, and especially love Olympic figure skating.

11. I would love to travel Route 66 in an RV and chronicle the trip with photos.

12. Favorite  forms of exercise:  walking and yoga.  They are both free, relaxing, and you can walk or practice yoga anywhere.

13. I would like to learn to knit and crochet.

14. My favorite music decade is the 1960's:  the Beatles, Beach Boys, girl groups, and Motown!

15. I ALMOST met Buddy Ebsen when I was a little girl.  He was signing autographs at Pearl Vision (as their spokesman) and I got uncharacteristically shy at the thought of meeting "Jed Clampitt" ... so I wouldn't go in.

16. If I could live in a classic TV show for a month, I would pick The Andy Griffith Show.  Mayberry, here I come!

So there you have it!  I'd love to hear your fun facts in the comments, below.

Just stopping by with a glimpse of some new arrivals at Birdhouse Books.

Vintage postcard of cats exploring the patio at the Hemingway House, Key West, Florida.
Lovely vintage New Year postcard with a fireplace and spinning wheel.
This 1910 New Year postcard shows a book and pink flowers.  It is a John Winsch postcard.
This vintage B.B. London postcard celebrates the New Year with lovely pink dogwood blossoms in a basket.
What a charming vintage postcard!  "Look Pleasant."  There is a short verse with daisies and a rural scene.

The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats is one of my favorite picture books for children.  This lovely story is about snow and winter and friendship.

The Berenstain Bears and the Prize Pumpkin is a cute Thanksgiving picture book for children.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend!
