#ShopSmall On Small Business Saturday

It's Small Business Saturday!  This day is a reminder to shop with small businesses, whether the local coffeehouse, the antique shop, the local produce stand, the little neighborhood pizza restaurant ... and of course, small online businesses as well.

I have a small online store focusing on cute, whimsical vintage items including children's books, holiday cards, dog and cat ephemera, and more:   Birdhouse Books on eBay.  I'm running a 25% off sale storewide all weekend through December 1, with over 2000 unique vintage items to treasure or give as gifts.

It's a Very Vintage Black Friday

Hi all!

Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, usually starts my Christmas shopping.  I always envy those smart people who shop early and are finished shopping months in advance.  I am not one of them, though!

I do a lot of shopping online, especially at eBay, Etsy, and Amazon.  I value gifts that are unique and special.  If you're doing some vintage Black Friday shopping, I hope you'll stop by my store:  Birdhouse Books on eBay.    I'm running a 25% off sale through midnight on Cyber Monday, December 1.

I love, love, love vintage Christmas items. You'll find hundreds of beautiful vintage Christmas cards in my shop.  These are great to frame, and also make sweet small gifts, tucked into a greeting card with a personal note from you.  Just click here if you'd like to browse:  vintage Christmas cards at Birdhouse Books.

Ornaments!  I have a few unique ornaments, like this Georgia ornament, in my store.  I have MANY more ornaments to list the next couple of weeks, so please keep checking my ornament department.

Vintage children's books are the very heart of my store.  If you're looking for a special gift for a child, please pop by: vintage children's books at Birdhouse Books.   I love finds like I Like Trains by Catherine Woolley, pictured here.

There's a lot more - vintage sewing, crafts and needlework kits, vintage cookbooks.  I hope you'll stop by if you're in the mood to shop from the comfort of home:  Birdhouse Books on eBay.

Music Monday - "Bad Motorcycle" by The Storey Sisters (1957)

This weekend I was catching up with email and listening to the 1950's channel on SiriusXM.  This song came on and I had to stop and listen.  I can't believe that I had never heard this fun, infectious 1957 tune before.  "Bad Motorcycle" was recorded by The Storey Sisters (Ann and Lillian Storey) in Philadelphia in 1957 on the Cameo label.  This song charted briefly in 1958 on the Billboard pop charts.  It's a girl group sound with a rockabilly beat, and it is just FUN.

Post from These Are The DSRs Of Our Lives: Nancy Drew and The Case of the Missing Listings

Hi all! The eBay group I belong to has a group blog (These Are the DSRs of Our Lives).  Our group leader, Beth, asked me to post there about some missing listings on eBay, so I wrote a little mini-Nancy Drew
mystery post today.  I thought you might enjoy reading this, too:

Music Monday - "Tell Him" by The Exciters (1962)

I can't believe I've never included "Tell Him" as a Music Monday selection before.  This girl group song from 1962 is one of my all time favorite songs.  The Exciters were a girl group from Queens, New York.  Brenda Reid, the lead singer, suggested adding her husband, Herb Rooney, to the group, and he joined them on most of their popular songs.  Legend has it that "Tell Him" is the song that inspired Dusty Springfield to sing pop/soul music.  This video, filmed at a zoo, is great fun!   I love everything about it - the dresses, the gloves, and especially the music.

The Return of Friday Faves

Hi all!

It's been a while since I've posted Friday Faves, but I couldn't resist posting a couple today.

First, there is this trailer for Into the Woods.  I saw it for the first time today and have already watched a couple of times.  I can't wait for this movie!  It's one of my favorite musicals and my favorite Sondheim score.  I love fairytale retellings.  I think Rob Marshall is a perfect choice of directors, and the cast includes Meryl Streep as the Witch and Johnny Depp as the Wolf.  Can't wait!

My other Friday Fave is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo).   I've heard of this annual challenge for years, but finally decided to jump in.  I'm not sure if I will complete the first draft of a novel by the end of November, but I am writing daily and really enjoying it.   I was a Creative Writing major, but it's been a while since I've written fiction.  I tend to be short-winded, so the word count is the most challenging aspect for me.  That said, it's fun to dive in and see where the experience leads.

I would love to hear from you in the comment section below.  Are you planning to see Into the Woods?  Are you taking the NaNoWriMo challenge?  Hope you'll take a moment and say "hi."

Music Monday - "Don't Get Around Much Anymore" by Willie Nelson (1978)

Willie Nelson's Stardust is one of my all time favorite albums.  It is a wonderful collection of Great American Songbook standards married to both country and jazz ... all with Willie's inimitable voice and phrasing.  My very favorite song on the album is the Duke Ellington classic, "Don't Get Around Much Anymore."  I could listen to this music all day (and I might!).
