Throwback Thursday - Christmas Cardboard Fireplace

Do you remember cardboard fireplaces?  These were popular in the 1960's and 1970's.   The picture above is from the 1969 Sears catalog.  They were made out of corrugated cardboard, with andirons and a fake fire.  We never had one, and I'm not sure I ever saw one at anyone's house, but I certainly remember them from catalogs and magazine photos during my childhood.

You'll see another couple of vintage cardboard fireplaces below:
This one even has retro decorations and gifts:
I was surprised to find these are still made (they are on Amazon).   I love holiday decorations this vintage, and am going to think about putting one of these up - with a retro theme tree - next year.

Let me know if you remember cardboard fireplaces.  Do you have any retro decorations or ornaments up at your house?  I'd love to hear from you in the comments, below.

  1. Yes! We never had one (I was born in the 80s so it was past my time haha) but I've definitely seen them around and I remember thinking they were SO COOL as a kid! haha

  3. We had one in the mid-60s. We found it while cleaning out the church basement about 25 years ago and it is now in our house!

  6. Hi from Eva, MA
I used to have one of these fireplaces, similar to the one with the tall flue. Only this week I have been checking them out and there are some available. Why not make your own = there are plenty on You Tube, and e-bay as well as Pinterest. In fact, some of them are great and I have a whole list now to choose from. Happy DIY. Eva

  8. No, this is just a vintage picture - I don't have a cardboard fireplace here or for sale! I would recommend trying eBay and Etsy -- vintage cardboard fireplace should pull up some matches. You might also want to see if Amazon has any new cardboard fireplaces. Good luck!
