Throwback Thursday - Jungle Gyms
When I was a kid, we had jungle gyms. They were on the playground at school, at public parks, at campgrounds ... and I never met a jungle gym I didn't like. You see that little girl climbing on the top of the jungle gym below? That is exactly what I would have done on this climber. You rarely see these now, with playground safety concerns, but they sure were fun! Do you remember retro jungle gyms? Were you a playground daredevil who hung upside down on jungle gyms and stood up on swings? I'd love to hear from you in the comments, below.
It was nice to see your article. I have been looking to links for an art series I have been working on. I played on the jungle gym when I was in elementary school too.
I remember it very fondly. I specifically remember that the girls had to wear dresses and I was worried about showing my underwear.
One of the kids in the top picture looks like me. Do you know who took the picture, the place and date? Where did you find it? Do you have any info on it?
Thanks for writing about the jungle gym. I am sorry that I don't have more info about the picture. It is part of a large collection of vintage digital images that I have -- I don't know who took the pictures, place or date. I wish I knew more!
Thanks for sharing!😀 I loved the bars at Centennial elementary school.😘😍 There were 3 sets 1st 2nd & 3rd grade. Kind of arbitrary. I remember how bummed out I was in the 4th grade. I used to sneak into the school on the weekends to climb! It's crazy to think about🤔 now, but I would play on those things till my hands were raw and bloody!😖 I would swear em off then stand on the side and watch the other kids till I couldn't😬stand it, then climb right back on again!Broke my heart the day I saw them missing from the playground!😧 Your probably right about the safety concerns. I would be ashamed if I was the parent who had the nerve to sue🤑 the school for an accident. Anyway we had a pretty awesome life back then, in the dark ages. Before technology took over.
